The ballot to elect a new Executive Council (EC) will be held in 2020. Those elected will hold office from 1 May 2020 to 30 April 2023.
The Executive Council is the ‘government’ of Unite, bringing together ordinary workers from around the UK and Ireland to shape our policies and development. To encourage members to stand for the EC they have produced a booklet titled “Your union is run by you” which sets out the roles and responsibilities of the Council.

Please bring it to the attention of your members. This will be sent to branch secretaries by post but copies can be read here: “Your union is run by you” and paper copies will be available from your regional secretary. If any members require the booklet in an alternative format please e-mail elections@unitetheunion.org.
To ensure that all members wishing to stand have equal access to branches in their constituency the administration of the union will send, by e-mail, an election statement on behalf of members who wish to seek nomination when the mailing inviting nominations is sent.
If any of your members would like to circulate such a statement please advise them that they should send it by e-mail to elections@unitetheunion.org.. The deadline for receipt of these statements is 26 November 2019.
Only members who are eligible to stand in the election may circulate a statement. For details of who is eligible to stand in the election see page 2 of the “Your union is run by you”.
