Unite the Union for you in
Scottish Local Authorities Newsletter August 2019
Unite intends to issue a quarterly newsletter on all issues being discussed nationally that affect you working in Local Authorities.
Pay Progress
It has been some time since Unite gave members an update on the pay situation. As you will recall, Unite called for the reopening of negotiations following the teachers reached a deal which saw them enjoy a 7% increase in 2019.
Unite, along with our sister unions, has been pushing COSLA to engage the Scottish Government to enter into further talks to address the disparity between teachers and local government pay rises.

Unite has recently written to the First Minster calling for a meeting to discuss pay and wider local government funding. Disappointingly a response has been received offering a meeting with the Finance Minister. An further update will be issued outlined any progress.
Consolidation of Living Wage
As part of the pay deal that was imposed on Unite members, it was agreed that there would be a consolidation of the Scottish Local Government Living Wage by 2021. This is being progressed through a working party which will meet regularly over the coming weeks and months.

Other Issues
Unite has also called on COSLA to increase First Aiders Allowance as this has not seen a rise for over 10 years.
In addition, there will be some comprehensive work exploring Well-Being across all local authorities to identify best practice with an aim to producing best practice guidelines. It has been agreed that the aim is to benefit all workers which, in turn, will benefit the Employer.
Look out for our next Update for progress on all of these issues.
If you have any questions or comments on any of the above, please do not hesitate to get in touch with your local representative or steward who will be only too happy to help and advise.
